Farmers Market Near Me? It’s “Closter” than you think!

We at Closter Farm are excited to open the doors on our brand new “Farm Stand” at 681 Closter Dock Road on April 23, 2021.  We view it as something between an Organic Farmers Market and a Farm Stand and hope it will become a regular part of the Bergen County experience.  Below are some questions we get a lot about what we are hoping to achieve and why we’ve structured it as we have.

What will we offer at the Farm Market?

Over the course of the season, we’ll offer dozens of varieties of Organic fresh vegetables, hand harvested right out of our soil, not 200 yards from where it was grown at the Farm Market.  We’ll start with arugula, mesclun, frisée, turnips, spinach and sugar peas, and as the weather heats up we’ll harvest onions, tomatoes, okra, peppers, eggplants, carrots, beets, squash … and so much more.

And we’ll be raising nearly 2,000 Organic, pastured chickens through out the summer, which means fresh chicken every few weeks and freezer-ready chicken to fill in the gaps.

Finally, we’ll be offering a limited amount of produce from other farms that share our approach to farm stewardship.  These would generally be products that we don’t have the space or ability to grow.  These might include corn, grass fed and finished beef, eggs, mushrooms and other fare.

There’s something for everyone.

Will we see other vendors at the Farm Market?

Just like last year we’ll have a number of outside partner vendors at market selling products they’ve made or grown themselves.  These vendors will share our passion for great food, properly grown and will ideally use our produce and turn it into original creations of their own.  This might include ice cream, baked goods and sauces.  Please follow our web page and Instagram feed for details as they develop.

What are the Farm Market hours?

Our hours to start the 2021 season will be 3-7pm Fridays and 10-2pm Saturdays and Sundays.  As we grow our Farm, market, Bergen County community, we’ll work to adjust and expand on these hours.

What types of payment do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, debit cards, cash, and checks. If you are a Farm Share member you will be able to use your Farm Card on any product we grow and process in-house including vegetables, chickens, honey, flowers, farm tours, and other events.  Outside vendors will not accept Farm Cards but generally accept credit cards, checks, and cash.

Will you be attending other Farmers’ Markets?

While we’ve loved meeting many of you at markets in Piermont and Westwood, we’ve decided, for now, to use our on-farm facilities to market our vegetables and chickens.  While both of these farmers’ markets have fantastic vendors and communities, we are focused on increasing our 2021 production by a factor of 5x over the 2021 season.  Our Organic system of production is labor intensive, and we think it’s best for the animals and vegetables, and for our customers to keep the system as tight as possible. We believe this will provide a fantastic market experience as well as a higher quality product, due to the fact that it is not being packed and transported to and from each farmers’ market. That way, we’re much closer to a true farm-to-table experience.

As we streamline our production we’ll look to find more ways and places to meet our customers. But for now we’ll be right here at Closter Farm, just 5 minutes off of Exit 2 on the Palisades Parkway/Rt. 9W.
